Blog | I’m a Gamer Girl (how I got started)

I’ve enjoyed playing video games for about as long as I can remember, but I haven’t always considered myself an actual gamer.

The first console I played on was the Super NES by Nintendo that my family owned when I was little and, next to reading and being outdoors, playing Tetris or Donkey Kong was a great way to pass the time. While we were traveling, my Game Boy Pocket saw so much use that the screen came off and it eventually gave up the ghost. I lost so many hours playing Tetris Attack and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

But it wasn’t until I was a teenager and working that I purchased a console of my own; a GameCube, which would quickly become my absolute favorite console.

I had played on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 with my brother and some friends, but they were into First Person Shooter type games and I was used mainly as bait, lol. This initial experience with these two ‘powerhouse’ consoles kept me from playing on them for years afterwards… they just weren’t fun for me.

My GameCube, on the other hand, saw me through many adventures; from Skies of Arcadia and Baten Kaitos: The Lost Ocean to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Super Monkey Ball.

Since that time, I’ve purchased a Nintendo Wii, PS3 and a super pretty PS4! While I much prefer to play on a PC, it’s hard to turn down the fun times to be had on these consoles.

I chose to purchase the Final Fantasy XV limited edition PS4 pro… mainly because it was absolutely gorgeous and figured why not go all out on my first console in ages? I had dabbled in the Final Fantasy world of games with Final Fantasy X and X-2, but XV was the first title that I completed. It was good enough, in my estimation, that I plan to go back and play earlier titles in the franchise.

As I’ve continued spending time and energy in video games, I’ve discovered that my most favorite titles are action role playing games where you, as the player, are the main character progressing the story and exploring the in-game world.

Three of my favorite RPGs are the Mass Effect trilogy, Horizon Zero Dawn, and inFamous Second Son…

I’m pretty sure that I’ll be gaming for many years to come and am excited to experience the many new and unique titles out there, from triple A titles to itsy bitsy indie games, there are just so many good games to play.

What are some of your favorite games?

  1. I have been very envious of people who had the Nintendo 64 who could play Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda etc etc. The first console (and the only console) I have had was the Nintendo Wii (which was gifted to me by my aunt) where I was like holy smokes, there are consoles too… and specific games for these consoles.

Favourite games – Super Mario Galaxy 1,2 (I am sad they didn’t Make SMG3), Mario Kart Wii, Mass Effect Trilogy. On the visual novel side Doki Doki Literature Club, Katawa shoujo. There are way too many games I love. If I started typing all of them, this comment might get flagged as scam.
